GeoTools & CADPower are always looking for inspiration and direction to grow into newer solution areas that address the challenges of today's design processes.
We have identified two such areas which will be defining the life-cycle of development in V21.
CADPower V21: dwg-data mining
Data mining is extracting of information from large data-stores and presenting the same in a usable form. For a design organization, the .dwg files are their data-store. Organizations often produce hundreds of drawings, finding and getting information from these drawings is a challenge. In CADPower, we are marking the start of a long journey to mine this data from (external) drawings and present to the user in an easily recognizable and usable form.
In its simplest form, we added a new command called CP_EXTRACTXREFLAYER in v 21.04 which allows you to extract a single layer from an external reference (XREF) into the current drawing. The ability to bring in data from XREFs is great, because you can only selectively query information from external files and make them part of your current drawing. A powerful drawing search routine that can parse through reams of .dwg files and look for that elusive information you wanted, or that summary of feature count that is critical to your decision making: all of these are now going to be easier in CADPower V21.
Please provide your inputs and feedback, your wishlists and how you want us to deliver these features to you. Our listening gates are open and we are waiting.
GeoTools V21: The Dutch GML connection to get stronger
GML is Geography Markup Language. There are numerous variants of the GML file and each is structured as per the defining schema, provided in .XSD file. Way back in 2015, we introduced the first GML reader in GeoTools using some sample files received from a user in Netherlands. Now, with an increase in the interest level and enquiries for a GML reader in GeoTools, we are keen to work on this and build new tools and capabilities to handle GML files. We know handling GML files (for import) is not a generic programming task but a highly customized extraction of data from GML records to CAD entities. This is going to be one of the thrust areas for us in the V21 life-cycle of GeoTools.
I request GML veterans to share your experience, files and ideas with us to help us grow this further. We are already in the process of building some strategic partnerships with individuals and organizations in Netherlands and more ideas are always welcome.
