Much has been written and talked about the availability of Intergraph's CADWorkx® Plant Design platform on BricsCAD.
I delved into the news and spoke to a few users and discovered that there was another small piece of news that was equally important but not reported enough. And that is the availability of GT STRUDL® on BricsCAD.
GT STRUDL® is Intergraph’s structural analysis and design modeling software is used by structural engineering professionals for concrete, steel, and reinforced concrete design of structures.
With GT STRUDL® now available on BricsCAD, a whole new platform for structural analysis and design opens up on BricsCAD. A new bridge has been built that links BricsCAD with multiple Intergraph platform products. Pre- and post-processing reporting of analysis and design data can now be directly done on BricsCAD while the GT STRUDL® engine does the core analysis and design jobs.
With CADWorkx® talking to BricsCAD, it was a given that other software from the Intergraph eco-system would also follow suit, else a broken link is enough to ruin the convenience of inter-operability and cross-exchange of data.
With BricsCAD trying to bridge the gaps by talking to third-party software that either imports data from it or exports data to it, the chain is now getting stronger. And Bricsys must continue this practice more and more to stay in the radar of design, enterprise and manufacturing software that are in the upstream or downstream part of the life-cycle.
There is convergence of design, manufacturing, non-engineering enterprise data and of course, the cloud. Many third-party BricsCAD developers have built customized interfaces to other design, ERP and manufacturing software. Building software interfaces to some of the leading names in design like Intergraph is surely going to help Bricsys be in the radar of the customers of these software. And that is as important for Bricsys today as is building new functionality in its core platform.
