Hans-Jurgen Becker from DVS System Software is now talking about a packaging application that works with BricsCAD.
Hans stressed the importance of packaging by saying that "packaging is everything - with the right packaging, you can sell everything to everyone".
Packedia, their packaging product is an interesting product that focusses on a niche area of creating parametric packaging boxes. Hans demoed the first component of this app which allows users to select the right package from a catalog database and create a parametric package, DXF output (for BricsCAD) and a sheet layout drawing to optimize cutting of sheets to maximize the sheet usage.
Hans showed some cool stuff using 3d animation that starts with a unfolded, developed view of the package which folds itself at the right places and turns into a 3d model that closes and opens to show how the package actually works in real life when used. Additional presentation effects like printing, materials corrugated cardboard etc) can be applied for realistic visualization of the package.
Presentation output can be created as 3d pdf for 360 degree visualization.
