New Delhi, India
Sanjna Rao, project guide Mr. Suryanarayanarao S.R and co-participant Sharanya Srinivasan
More than 5 months of hard work and preseverence paid off yesterday with my daughter, Sanjna Rao's team winning a special appreciation award instituted by www.broadcom.com at the IRIS Science Fair in New Delhi.
She was in the Junior category (under Grade 9) and her research project on Power Consumption by Computer Monitors at Differant Contrast and Brightness Settings and It's Impact on the Carbon Footprint was appreciated for its innovative idea, presentation, problem solving using physics and engineering skills and lastly for its impact on energy management and carbon footprint quantification. Power consumption and carbon footprint are directly related. This project delivers the message of their inter-play.
Her team qualified as a winner in a special category with an award which entitles them the status of an Broadcom Masters International delegate at the upcoming Intel ISEF Science Fair in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. Winners in the senior category get to participate in the ISEF fair, while some of the winners in the Junior category are privileged to go as observers.
Intel ISEF is the world's largest international pre-college science competition, attracting more than 1,500 high school students from about 70 countries to showcase their independent research. This fair is open to students in grades 9-12.
I wrote about her selection to the national level many weeks back. Since then, my daughter, Sanjna Rao and her partner, Sharanya Srinivasan have been working on this project dilgently with constant mentoring from their guide Mr. Suryanarayanarao S. R of Sishu Griha, Bangalore.
On November 29th, 30th and December 1st and 2nd, 2012, the 107 finalists from all over India setup their stalls in National Bal Bhavan, New Delhi and showed their research work to a panel of industry experts and academia and the general public and gained immense exposure and experience in the process.
Overall, it has been a rewarding experience for the kids as they also got to see a vast variety of projects that were put up by other students.
Once again, a BIG congratulations to Sanjna and Sharanya, their guide Mr. Suryanarayanarao S.R and their school Sishu Griha Montessori and High School for having made it!!
