Object data and block attributes are two commonly used attachment data in CAD software like AutoCAD/Map and Bricscad. The standard INSERT command or 'Attach object data' operation in AutoCAD requires you to type or key in the values each time you need to enter them. Most often, all attribute or object data values are similar and one of a pre-defined set of values from a list. Now, there is an easy way to populate these data from pre-defined, configurable values which can be easily selected via drop-down lists. The GT_EASYATT and GT_EASYOD commands offer this in GeoTools.
The first step is to specify the set of values that each attribute or object data field can take. This is done using the GT_EASYATT_SETUP or GT_EASYOD_SETUP command, whose interface looks like this.
With these two commands, you can select a block or an object table and specify the values (which become the drop-down options for that item) that each one of the attributes or data fields must take. Once you have defined and setup your multiple choice options, you can save them into ASCII INI files that can be retrieved easily. So, your task of creating the drop-down multiple-choice definition is only a one-time effort.
Once you have gotten past this step of completing the multiple-choice setup, the next one is easy. Simply start the command GT_EASYATT or GT_EASYOD and select the block or object that you want to set attributes. You will see a screen that looks like this:
So, these two tools, part of our GeoTools software, is a quick and easy way to populate attribute and object data when you know that the possible values are always selectable from a set of pre-defined values. Of cource, there is an over-ride option which allows the values to be type into the edit box, if it does not any one of drop-down values.
