Recently, we created the GT_TAGDELcommand in GeoTools to add to our existing collection of 'Blocks and Attributes' tool.
GT_TAGDEL, as the name indicates, deletes attributes tags from a block definition and updates existing instances of the block. We realized the need for such a command while working on a data management project for one of our clients who had hundreds of blocks in their drawings, each one of which contained several redundant attributes. These 'extra' or 'unnecessary' attributes were either added by external programs or were created once but are no longer required now.
The task on hand was to cleanup a drawing containing blocks and delete some tags, retain some and more importantly, not disturb the attribute placements points and rotations, some of which had been manually edited to make the drawing look pretty. GT_TAGDEL command was created to solve this problem.
The GT_TAGDEL command can be found under the 'Blocks and Attributes Tools' and you will be prompted to select a block and then select one or more attribute tags for deletion.
Upon clicking OK, GT_TAGDELupdates the block definition and the inserted blocks with the selected tags removed and all existing attributes retaining their current positions and properties as before.
The GT_TAGDELcommand works identically in both AutoCAD as well as Bricscad platforms.
