We have created yet another labeling tool in GeoTools - for AutoCAD as well as Bricscad. But, it was required. Read on....
GeoTools already has more than half a dozen text labeling tools of various shapes and sizes. Some work on points, blocks, polyline segments, vertices, elevations, attached data like object data, Xdata and database linked data, derived properties etc etc and perform different annotation patterns.
Most of these tools are automatic bulk-processing tools with optional picked point annotation. Amidst all these labeling tools, we found that something was missing - users wanted a simple, quick tool to label a single segment of line or polyline, perhaps even update and existing text label with a new value of the annotation.
We created the GT_LENTEXT command for this purpose:
GT_LENTEXT : (Annotation Tools - Create/update length annotation):The GT_LENTEXT command creates a length annotation. If you have a segment of a line or polyline, its length can be easily annotated as text using this command.
Often, the drawing units are scaled and different from the real units. To accommodate this, it is possible to scale the length using a length modifier. You can add, subtract, multiple or divide the DWG length by a factor to create the exact annotation desired.
The GT_LENTEXT command complements the existing set of annotation routines available in GeoTools. This a 'quick an dirty' tool for rapid length annotations. You can instantly create text annotations or pick existing text objects and have them updated with the new length annotation.
This is just one of the 250-odd small miracles you can perform in AutoCAD or Bricscad with a small add-on called GeoTools. And all put together, this represents one giant leap in using CAD to a much higher level of productivity.
