Here is some interesting news: Bricscad Version 9.3.9 has been released.
Bricscad V9.3.9 is a milestone release, the first version to use the new geometry library developed by Bricsys over the last 2 years. With this release, Bricscad is now VERY CLOSE to being fully independent of IntelliCAD code.
This is also a very important release for us because GeoTools uses many functions from the curve geometry library (vlax...). So, a whole lot of GeoTools functions work much better with this new release. In fact, we would STRONGLY recommend GeoTools users to download and use this latest release 9.3.9 of Bricscad to experience a far superior performance.

Bricsys planned to reserve the introduction of V 9.3.9 for the upcoming V10 release, but decided to offer Bricscad users its benefits in this pre-V10 update. "Although we are still fine-tuning the library, you will notice that it has helped hatch boundary detection, offset and trim commands to tremendously improve their capabilities", explained Bricsys in a release note.
Another very important direction Bricsys is charting for Bricscad is to natively port the Bricscad platform for both Linux and Mac-OS. This is scheduled for release sometime next year but a lot of under-the-hood development is already happening in Bricscad to support this development. The main programming efforts are directed towards moving away from MFC-classes to OS-independent WxWidgets. Needless to say, this is a massive programming re-design and if there are still any quirks and bugs/unexpected behavior, it is most likely because of this change (in progress).
In this newsletter, we have listed only some of the important fixes and enhancements. This is NOT a complete list of the changes.
For the full list, see here:

A partial list of the changes in v 9.3.9:
- Bricscad v 9.3.9 is based on a completely new underlying geometry engine (and different from the one used by other IntelliCAD clones). This new engine allows all the (vlax...) functions to be fully implemented and this in turn ensures that all of the GeoTools curve geometry-related commands now run correctly in Bricscad.
- Bricscad 9.3.9 fixes and enhances many commands relating to image management, including support for geo-referenced ECW files from ER Mapper.
- GeoTools for Bricscad now offers the GT_GEO_INS command which can be used to attach multiple images at once, be it TIFF, JPG, BMP or ECW. This addresses your direct concern about how to bring in multiple images in one single operation into the Bricscad environment. Bricscad (with GeoTools) now is the only CAD platform in its price range that can import a whole range of geo-referenced image formats in bunches all at once. This would be something users of imagery would certainly want to try out in this new release.
- OFFSET command code and underlying algorithm have been rewritten from scratch. The OFFSETGAPTYPE setting is supported now. It determines how possible gaps in parallel copies are filled: chamfered, filleted or by extending the adjacent line segments.
- TRIM command code and underlying algorithm have been rewritten from scratch.
- Polylines and splines can now be trimmed by themselves. Support for the Crossing option was added.
- During command execution the Shift key now allows to switch between Trim and Extend modes.
- HATCH and BOUNDARY command code and underlying algorithm have been rewritten from scratch. Support for bridging gaps in hatch boundaries:
When no closed outer boundary can be found, the program will bridge gaps over distances up to the value of HPGAPTOL by calculating extensions of entities.
- MODELER: the existing Acis implementation was replaced with the new (Acis-based) SPA modeler implementation of ODA.
- AI_BOX, AI_PYRAMID, AI_WEDGE, AI_CONE, AI_CYLINDER, AI_SPHERE, AI_TORUS, AI_DISH, AI_DOME, AI_EDGESURF, REVOLVE, 3D_MESH, PFACE commands were rewritten from scratch.
- REVSURF, RULESURF, TABSURF, EDGESURF, DISH and DOME no longer create 3D solids. They now generate meshes.
-WBLOCK command was added, dxf binary/precision options were added for wblock in dxf format.
- PLOT command was rewritten from scratch and we switched from MFC-based to WxWidgets-based printing (linux preparation).
- New WxWidgets based PRINT PREVIEW dialog.
- COM: For VBA programmers, a whole lot of enhancements have been added to the API to make it more fully compatible supporting all methods and properties.
- LISP: added support for functions (power x y) and (random x).
- CHAMFER: support was added for creating chamfers between polylines.
- CHAMFER: added the possibility to chamfer a polyline with itself.
- Command line panel (commandbar and textscreen): Added Ctrl-A accelerator
for 'Select All'.
- Raster images: a crash occurred when trying to process greyscale ECW
files.
- Raster images: ECW files remained locked after being detached from a
drawing.
- LIST: command did not support IMAGE entities.
