As a CAD user or manager, have you ever wondered how you could create patterns (defined as blocks) along a polyline or line?
Think about all the situations in CAD when you wish you could easily drape a block and fit-scale it along the segments of a polyline. This is something that CAD users face all the time, be it while creating linear mapping symbols, fences, water/sewer lines or HVAC ducts and paths, or simply in an architectural / mechanical deisgn to deck up a linear element with block patterns.
In the past, you would have struggled to accomplish this with the MEASURE command in CAD with partial success. You would need a lot of manual editing to get the required symbology and representation in place.
We faced this issue last week when one of our prospective Bricscad evaluation user in Bangalore came up with this request. And this gave birth to the GT_DRAWSEGBLOCKS command in GeoTools, within a week of the request coming to us.
A picture is worth a thousand words. So, here we show how an embankment created with the GeoTools GT_EMBHATCH command was enhanced to match up to the user's exact requirement using GT_DRAWSEGBLOCKS commands.
You can also see how the same command was used to create a flow pattern by applying the symbol on multiple segments of a polyline. Subsequently, the Y scale of each block was set to 1.0 to get a pattern that looks good.
This is just one of the 250-odd small miracles you can perform in Bricscad and AutoCAD with a small add-on called GeoTools. And all put together, this represents one giant leap in using CAD to a much higher level of productivity.
